EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Jackie had to stop at her favorite place along Highway 90, the outdoor rock shop where the dog bit her in the leg last year.  She must have been oozing, "Come over and get a taste of revenge," because this is as close as they would get to her this year.  It's the dog on the far left that ripped into her jeans last year.

The high desert in Van Horn, TX. is covered with this plant, the Creosote bush or Chaparrel.  The cattlemen and farmers have no use for it as it produces a chemical that doesn't allow anything else to grow near, and the cows want no part of it.  The Native Americans used it as medicine for sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, chicken pox, dysmenorrhea and snakebite.  I enjoy the strong pungent smell that wafts from its leaves and makes everything seem somehow disinfected.

Rolling along the Van Horn, TX. downtown strip, alone amoung the dozens of empty $29.95 motels we came upon one place exuding culture. Here we have a piece tittled "SPARE CAR HORN."

This impressive piece was aptly titled, "WHITE BONES AND DUSTY BOTTLES.
