Goodbye Motels

Too many motels on the way down from the Yoop had us weary of indoor camping and really tired of continental breakfasts. So, despite the forecasted hard-freeze, a real Florida cold snap, we headed 10 miles north from Alachua (A-latch-u-way) to O’Leno State Park to purge the rigs water system of antifreeze and fill up our water tank.

Jackie initiated her spring anti-dirt/germ campaign, ruthlessly wiping-out all but the most cunning microbes, leaving our home-on-wheels smelling Clorox sweet and prepared for living or surgery, whichever came first.
I busied myself with wandering around the park looking for Spanish Moss pictures, establishing a computer connection, building a smoky fire, beer tasting and rearranging tools, electrical extensions, hoses, and things in the outside storage bins.

Two days at the park and we’re off to a reunion with my buddy Gordon (Scoop) Clark, wife Jill, pooch Barney and new addition, Friskey the feline. Crystal River, FL 90 miles to the south. We’ve not seen one another for 50 years, except for a picture or two. Two old ducks wondering where the time has gone.
